Ousmane Kouyate
Ousmane Kalil Kouyaté aka King Koraman grew up in Dakar, Senegal, before moving to Conakry, the Guinean capital. He learned the kora but also singing and the djembe from an early age with his illustrious grandfathers, the virtuosos of the kora Soundioulou Cissokho et Mbady Kouyate and had his first stage experiences with them from 1994. He joined the formation of Ba Cissoko in 1998, with whom he toured throughout West Africa and participated in 2003 in the album Sabolan (Marabi Productions). The same year, he founded with Kandia Kouyaté aka Kandia Kora Mandingo Stars and participates in the Nuits Métis festival.
Eager to open up to new styles and share his influences, he moved to Paris in 2009 and founded with his childhood friends Sory Diabaté aka Papus Diabate and the late Ibrahima Bah aka Kounkoure the Universal Kora Groove group, an explosive trio that immediately took over Parisian cinemas. Ousmane Kouyaté develops with his two friends an Afro-jazz fusion taken from la mandingo music and tinted with perfumes pop, funky, drunk, blues, rock or rap, which he accompanies with singing in Malinké, Soussou and Peul.
In 2011, the three friends co-founded, with Lucien Alfonso (violin), William Hountondji (saxophone), Michael Gimenez (guitar) and Pierre Mangeard (drums), the septet Toukouleur Orchestra. With this group, they recorded in 2013 Tamala, a first album mixing afro-jazz, blues and sometimes bebop.
At the same time, Ousmane also accompanies renowned musicians with various musical influences (BlackM, MHD, Blitz the Ambassador, Tairo, Christophe Mae, Lek Sen, Saiko Nata, Soul Bang's, Blade MC et Stefan Filey, William Balde, Helene Segara...).
Ousmane has also been leading solo projects since 2019 under the stage name King Koraman. He launched the same year the clothing brand KK.
